ACI San Diego Newsletter November 2025
President's Report

Happy November, ACI San Diego!
I hope you’re all doing well and settling smoothly into Q4, (can you believe we’re already nearing the end of the year?!) Just wanted to touch on a few things since my last message.
First, a HUGE thank you to everyone who supported our annual golf tournament! We had incredible attendance, we were completely sold out! Our UCSD and SDSU student teams raised $1,600, which was split between both schools. Thank you so much to everyone who donated.
Additionally, our ACI Hole also raised $1,280 toward our 2026 scholarship fund, so another big thank you to everyone who gave, played, and enjoyed the day with us. The weather absolutely showed up for us, and the whole event was just so much fun. Looking forward to next year’s tournament, save the date for October 5th 2026! (Congratulations to CalPortland for winning the Halloween booth 3 years in a row!)
On top of that, our Women in Concrete Committee hosted their very first event, a Paint & Sip at Liberty Station, and it was an absolute hit! The event sold out, the turnout was fantastic, and the evening was filled with fun, networking, and genuine connection among both new and familiar faces. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and an extra big thank you to those who helped spread the word within their organizations. It was so great seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones who haven’t attended before. We truly couldn’t have had this turnout without you. More exciting events from this committee are definitely on the way!
I also want to remind everyone that our ACI Awards & 60th Anniversary Celebration is coming up in May 2026. The Call for Entries is officially open, and we encourage anyone with a project to submit early. The deadline is February 6, 2026, and we cannot wait to see the amazing work our community will showcase for this milestone anniversary. You can register and submit your files at the link below. Cheers,
Stacy Williams

Committee Updates
ACI San Diego is thrilled to announce the launch of our newest committee: Women in Concrete, and we’re so excited to share that our very first event, held on October 16th, was an incredible success. In fact, it sold out!
We welcomed 35 attendees to our inaugural paint and sip event, and the energy in the room was absolutely electric. The turnout included both members and non-members from across the industry and the broader community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our current members who shared the invitation and helped boost awareness, your support truly made this event shine.
From the moment the room filled, it was clear this committee tapped into something special. There were smiles, laughter, great conversations, and that unmistakable feel good energy that comes from bringing amazing people together to connect. It was wonderful to see so many new faces alongside our familiar ones, and especially inspiring to welcome women who do not typically attend our chapter’s regular events. That alone speaks volumes about the need and excitement for this initiative.
During the event, we also invited everyone to share feedback on the kinds of activities and gatherings they’d love to see from the Women in Concrete committee moving forward. Thanks to their thoughtful input, we are walking away with a long list of creative ideas, and we cannot wait to bring them to life.
The momentum from this launch has been energizing, and we are so excited for what’s ahead. Building community, expanding engagement, and elevating women within our industry is at the heart of this committee, and this first event was a powerful reminder of how much interest and potential there is within ACI San Diego.
More updates coming soon, this is just the beginning, and we’re excited for the incredible events to come!
Warmest regards,
Stacy Williams

ACI News

Some things are worth saving. UC San Diego's York Hall is a minimalist mid-century complex with iconic hexagonal fan-vaulted columns. Built in 1966, the building was vulnerable to major damage and potential collapse in a strong earthquake. To preserve York Hall's architectural heritage, the project team surgically retrofitted the complex, integrating modern engineering and innovative craftsmanship that demonstrates concrete's versatility and importance in revitalizing historic structures. The project team's successful approach delivered the retrofit on time and 10% under budget and serves as a model for future seismic retrofits on the UCSD campus.
Initially recognized as the 2024 Repair & Restoration award winning project by the ACI San Diego Chapter, UCSD York Hall Seismic Improvements project was recently awarded 2nd place in the Repair & Restoration category at the 11th Annual ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards. The ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards honors the most outstanding projects from around the globe. Pacific Southwest Structures, Inc. (PSSI) had the privilege of attending the 2025 ACI Concrete Convention and the Awards Gala in Baltimore, MD to accept the award. The project was a challenge through and through, and having the project team's innovative approach and the San Diego Chapter recognized on an international stage can only be said to be incredibly rewarding.
