Mr. Concrete Award
The American Concrete Institute, San Diego International Chapter is proud to create a special award for members who have made outstanding contribution to the production or use of concrete materials, products, and structures in the areas of education, research, development, design, construction, or management locally within the San Diego region. Beyond the local contributions within the San Diego concrete industry, this recognition also considers significant contributions to the American Concrete Institute (such as in Committee Involvement) as well as significant contributions to our local San Diego International ACI Chapter. This recognition is not meant to be awarded annually, but rather presented and recognized at the San Diego Chapter Concrete Awards event when a candidate is deserving of such recognition for their contributions both locally and globally in the concrete industry. The ACI San Diego Local Chapter board of directors shall receive nominations from chapter members of candidates who should be under consideration for this recognition. Nominations for consideration of being honored shall be presented to the ACI San Diego local Chapter Board of Directors and elected by the Board of Directors. At the time of nomination, the candidate shall be an active member or representative of the ACI San Diego International Chapter of at least fifteen years.
2026 Mr. Concrete Award:
Steve Campbell as the first ever recipient of this recognition from the ACI San Diego International Chapter
In honor of Steve, this award will be recognized as the Steve Campbell “Mr. Concrete” Award. recognizing Outstanding Contribution to the San Diego Concrete Industry.
Now lets get to know Steve.
Most of you here tonight undoubtedly know the name Steve Campbell – or as he's affectionately known, Mr. Concrete. Tonight, we're not just honoring Steve, but the remarkable legacy he has tirelessly built and gifted to the concrete industry.
With over 4,800 inspectors certified through his 40-plus years running the ACI San Diego Certifications, and more than 20 years teaching inspection classes at San Diego State, he has absolutely earned that iconic nickname. If any of you have ever had the privilege of sitting in one of his review sessions or a class at SDSU, you know firsthand that concrete isn't just his job – it's his absolute passion.
Over the years, I've met countless people who know Steve, and they always share a memorable lesson or an analogy they learned from him – analogies that truly stick with you. One of my favorites, and one I think we can all appreciate tonight, is: 'Remember, before you go to the bar, you gotta go dancing!'
So tonight, let's all raise a glass, embrace a little dancing, and then head to the bar to toast the one and only Steve Campbell!
The Bob Floyd Membership Cup Award
This annual award is given to the individual company who recruits the most new or renewing ACI members. The contest runs from May to March and the award is given at the ACI Annual Awards Banquet.
