Every year, it seems like the holiday season starts earlier and earlier – with Christmas lights and Christmas trees going up right after the Halloween decorations come down and the holiday music stations start popping up on the radio. Thanksgiving seems to be squeezed more and more, but I think it’s important to remember to step back and be thankful for all that’s happened over the past year. Truthfully, we should probably do this all the time and not wait until November, but life gets busy and the many “thanksgiving”-themed crafts brought home by my kids daily are a good reminder to pick this habit up again.
We are thankful for all of the members of our ACI organization. We thank you for making our golf tournament on September 30th a giant success. We thank you for generously supporting the UCSD students in their bid to perform well at the concrete canoe competition (and hopefully win!). We thank you for showing generosity to our first responders and supporting FirefighterAid. And we are definitely thankful for your continued support of our organization. I am extremely grateful for our board members and their companies for the time they volunteer. And lastly, but most importantly, I’m thankful to Heather Caya – she should get a Nobel prize for just putting up with me and the rest of the board members – but this organization would not be possible without her hard work and dedication.
It was an eventful November event – or lack thereof – as the San Diego State area lost power and we had to cancel our student mixer. Despite this slight setback, the Board met as planned to continue planning for 2020 at the only taco shop with power in the area – until they lost power too!
Nonetheless, we’ll have an exciting agenda of seminars coming up as we get going again after the turn of the year. We’ll continue with our student mixers next year, with one by UCSD and “make-up” mixer at SDSU as we push to get the next generation of construction managers, engineers, inspectors, and concrete experts exposed to this industry. Stay tuned for our next lunch seminar coming up in January 2020.
As the holidays approach, we wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Cheers to 2019, and here’s to a great 2020 to come!
